EDIFY-Department of Biochemistry

The Edify on 19/1/2017 started with a video on biostatistics. It was a mindblowing video on how all statistics and data can be made interesting.

A moment to celebrate four faculty were promoted to the next academic post.

The Department of Biochemistry presented a video on the overview of the department activities followed by which the showcased there academic and research success. They had 71 distinctions in the previous academic year, 405 publication and still counting on to add another 51 which will be completed shortly. 

They played 2 videos one on Sickle cell anaemia and another on DNA analysis. They have plans to conduct 3 CME programme shortly. 

They were simply rocking!!!

CDE on Rotary Endodontics in Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr.Madhu Sudhan, Reader, Department of Pedodontics, Saveetha Dental College spoke on “Root Canal Morphology in Primary teeth” . He gave detailing on every tooth and the difference between the Primary and Secondary teeth. Dr.Ganesh Jeevanandan gave lecture on Shaping redefined-Use of rotary files in Primary teeth. This enlightened the spectators on the fine details to be considered while using the rotary instruments and correlate with the morphology discussed in the earlier lecture. This was followed by the hands on training by both the speakers which gave the delegates a more confident approach on Rotary Endodontics In Kids.

CME programme on Anaerobic Infections.

CME programme on “ Anaerobic infections: Current Challenges & Newer Approaches” by the Department of Microbiology. In an era of modern medicine where antibiotics play a key role in management of many diseases anaerobic organisms pays a challenge. Oral cavity harbours numerous commensals which turn out to be infectious in immunocompromised state. A wide knowledge on these anaerobic organisms and their management is essential for effective patient care. So is the programme which enlighten us on all these aspects.

  • Candidates who did their Undergraduate Dental education in India should have completed Internship by 31 March 2017.

  • Candidates who did their Undergraduate Dental education outside India should have special permission from DCI.

  •  All Candidates should be qualified in NEET - PG 2017  (for all categories including NRI quota).

  • Tuition Fee for MDS in different Specialities are as follows: 

    • Oral Pathology, Public Health Dentistry - 3,00,000 Indian Rupees / annum. 

    • Periodontics, Oral Medicine + Special Care Dentistry - 6,00,000 Indian Rupees / annum. 

    • Pedodontics, Prosthodontics  - 9,00,000 Indian rupees / annum. (Prosthodontic graduates will need to buy BPS instruments (Rs. 3,50,000)  and Dental Implant kits (Rs. 2,00,000)

    • Oral Surgery, Endodontics, Orthodontics - 12,00,000   Indian rupees / annum.  


Fantastic Day 5-STAR Summit

Students go global...Chief guests of the day are Dr.Aruni Wilson,Basic Sciences, Division of Microbiology, School of Medicine,Loma Linda University. An author of numerous articles and books on oral microbiota. Prof.Dr. Tord Lindgren, Chair,Department of Periodontics, Loma Linda University. Sir is been a University of California, San Francisco, University of Florida, King Faizal Speciality Hospital and College. Its an honour to have them here, they were looking at our students work and were impressed also inspired us to work more.

There wer 275 posters by 2 departments, 21 judges and 45 peer judges !! isn't it a really fantastic day!!

Fabulous Day 4- STAR Summit

It was a great day again. Everyday is becoming a celebration with our students effort and hard work. 

Our Chief Guest of the day is Dr. Sharada Ramasubramanian, Associate Professor ,R.S.Mehta Jain Department of Biochemistry and cell Biology vision research foundation, Shankara Nethralaya, Chennai. Madam has done her post-doctoral in UK. She has numerous national and international research publications to her credentials.

Department of Orthodontics and Pedodontics displayed their research work which was simply mind blowing. Over 266 posters, 21 judges and 30 peer judges. Everyone was dump stuck at the work by the students and their knowledge on research. 

SDC Signs MOU with Catholic SEOUL University

The Catholic Institute of Korea Graduate School of Dental Sciences and Saveetha Dental College & hospital as an institution and Saveetha University for its Institutions had signed a MoU today.

This will be a new beginning for the students and faculty to go in for joint research from both the institutions.

Its just not going to stop there but there will also be joint lectures, symposia, exchange of academic informations and publications masters and doctorate degree enrollment besides student and faculty exchange programs.

"Smile forever" Program at Presidency College

The students of Presidency College located at Kilpauk, Chennai were provided dental care by the Students of Public Health Department on 22nd October 2016. They exhibited posters and models to promote oral hygiene. The students were taught about the importance of oral care and brushing techniques. About 153 students were benefitted out of this camp.

" Dont Rush to Brush" camp at Shri khongurunathar Vidyalaya ,Thozur

The students of Public Health Dentistry conducted free dental camp 0n 24th November 2016 at Shri Khongurunathar Primary School located at Thozur . The main motto of the camp was to create awareness among the children to brush their teeth properly and to main a good oral health. They were demonstrated and trained how to brush their teeth. About 405 children were benefitted out of this camp.

HISTOPATHOLOGY SLIDE READING SERIES PART III- Soft Tissue Pathology

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Saveetha Dental College conducted  Histopathology Slide Series, Part 3 Soft tissue Pathology on on 22nd November 2016 (Tuesday) between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Slide viewing and diagnosis is an integral part of the field of Oral Pathology as Histopathology is the gold standard for Diagnosis.Hence following the previous 2 parts of Slide reading, the next was on soft tissue pathology.

Real Time Slide Viewing & Interactive Discussion by was done Dr. S.Vidhya Lakshmi MD (Path), Post Doc Fellow (Oncopathology) Assoc.Professor, Department of Pathology,

PSG Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, Peelamedu, Coimbatore followed by Dr. M.P. Brundha MD (Path), DNB Asst Professor, Department of Pathology, Saveetha Medical College, Chennai. The session was moderated by Moderated by Dr. Pratibha Ramani MDS, DNB, PhD Professor and Head, Department of Oral Pathology Saveetha Dental College, Chennai.

The afternoon session involved facilitator mediated small group interactive slide viewing. The participants were divided into ten groups and provided individual microscopes and slides so as to understand the slides further and clarify their doubts with the concerned facilitators. There was a highly interactive discussion following the slide viewing and many doubts were clarified by the moderators as soft tissue pathology is highly complicated and difficult to diagnose.

"We smile when you smile" Program at Government High School, Nemilicherri

The student of Government High school located at Nemilicherri, Tiruvallur District Chennai were given oral health education on 23th November 2016. The children were screened and given basic oral health. They were educated on the importance of maintaining a good oral health. The students were provided with free treatment cards to avail oral treatment at Saveetha dental college. 123 students were benefitted out of this camp.

Oral health camp at Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Ayurveda College & Hospital, Nazarathpet

Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Ayurveda College and hospital students were given free oral health education on 22nd November 2016. The awareness of oral health was provided by interacting with the students and showing demonstrations. The students were also taught about the brushing techniques and how to maintain a good oral hygiene. About 177 of them were benefitted out of this camp
