The Department of Microbiology observed the World AIDS day on 1ST of December 2021 in the Saveetha Dental College and Hospital premises with the theme “End inequalities. End AIDS”. The department organized an awareness campaign emphasizing the importance of avoiding a discriminative attitude while handling AIDS patients. Discrimination come in the ways of being in rich and poor nation, rich and poor man, urban and rural and even gender. The department arranged a webinar on “Cell polarity and Macrophage Polarization: Implication in HIV and Cancer therapy” by Dr. Ishaan C. Jagan. Phd (Cancer Biology) a researcher on HIV and immunity and cofounder, VRRX Therapeutics Pvt, Ltd, Chennai, India. The lecture is aimed at creating awareness among the dental students and faculties on risk of showing discrimination while treating patients with HIV and AIDS and improving the general health that enhances the immune response. The lecture was well attended by students, faculties and international delegates, with a total of 80 participants.
