Understanding Mucormycosis

National Doctor’s Day was established by the Government of India back in 1991 in honor of the birth and death anniversary of the physician and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. Since then, July 1st in India is marked as National Doctor’s Day to show gratitude to all doctors. The day is observed on different dates across the world. In the United States, Doctor’s Day is observed on March 30th, in Cuba on December 3rd and in Iran on August 23rd.

Doctors have been fighting a long way from the frontlines against the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, saving lives at the cost of their own. With the pandemic still far from over, this day is important to honour many doctors who have sacrificed their lives.

To pay a tribute to the selfless work done by doctors and to honour their dedication towards serving their humanity, Saveetha Dental College, Chennai celebrated National Doctor’s Day by organising a webinar ‘Understanding Mucormycosis’. The webinar was presented by Dr. M.P.Santhosh Kumar, Associate Professor, Dept of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Saveetha Dental College. The registration was free and the E-invite was circulated among various institutional websites. E-certificates were offered to all the participants. The registration link was added in the invitation.

The main objective of this webinar was to bring together medical, paramedical, dental graduates and postgraduates, researchers and practising clinicians to discuss the recent occurrence of Mucormycosis, a severe post COVID secondary infection along with basic information about the myths and challenges of treating the infection. The questions of participants were also answered in the live session.
