ALL INDIA PHYSIO CREATICA 2021

Department of Physiology organized “ALL INDIA PHYSIO CREATICA 2021” on 10th August 2021 with the theme on “Creation in Physiology”. Around 172 students from 15 different colleges from all over India were participated in the event. The events include insculpt, rough out, modelling art and poetry. Chairing committee include faculties from Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals. The event started with welcome address by Dr.Sridevi, Associate Professor, and Department of Physiology. She addressed the gathering and given brief introduction about the chief guest of the day Dr.Sembulingam, Former Professor in Physiology. He shared his wide knowledge among buddy students to learn physiology in easy manner and he announced the prize winners. 4 best insculpt, 12 best rough out, 4 best modelling art and 7 best poems were awarded. The winners of the event were awarded by Dr.Sembulingam, with e-certificate virtually. The event ended up with the vote of thanks by Dr. R.Gayatri Devi, Associate Professor from department of Physiology.

The department of Periodontics conducted a webinar on “ Application of Biochemical nanoparticles for cell imaging and periodontal tissue regeneration”

on 9th August. The speaker Dr. Archana is currently working as Assistant Professor, Department of Biomaterials, Hiroshima University,Japan. The webinar discussed the methodology involved in periodontal regeneration by using the stem cell technology. The webinar provided great insights into the various newer biomaterials which could be applied in various therapeutic approaches for periodontal regeneration.

The guest speaker is “Dr. Snehunshu Adhikari”, Cheif exercise Physiologist, Sports Authority of India, Kolkata. The Webinar started with the welcome address by Dr.Sridevi, Associate Professor, Department of Physiology. She addressed the gathering and gave a brief introduction about the speaker. The participants for this webinar are undergraduate, postgraduate, research scholars and faculties from various colleges in India. He explained about identifying the sporting talent, assessment in sporting talent, challenges facing during sports. The session has been ruined with great interactive session with the audience and speaker. The session ended up by giving vote of thanks by Dr.S. Preetha, Assistant professor from the department of Physiology.

CBCT- Enhance your diagnostic Skills

The webinar covered the topics of basic anatomy of CBCT, operational basics of the software and evidence based guidelines. The resource persons for the webinar were Dr.Vivek Narayan, Dr.Prashanthi and Dr.Jayanth Kumar. The webinar started with a welcome address by Dr.T.N.Uma Maheswari, Prof and Head, Dept of Oral Medicine and Radiology. This was followed by the first lecture on Anatomy by Dr.Vivek Narayan. This lecture invited an active interaction with the audience as there were lot of interactive questions during the Q&A session. This was followed by the operational exposure of the software care stream by Dr. Prashanthi. Finally the last part of the webinar had a lecture from Dr.Jayanth on the evidence based guidelines being followed in the practice and usage of CBCT in Dentistry.

The webinar was attended by 46 delegates across the length and breadth of the country.

The Department of Anatomy, Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals organized a webinar on “Recent Trends in Dental Imaging”. The Guest speaker for the event was Dr. Rahul Pratap Kotain, Dean and Professor, Radiology and imaging, NIMS University, Jaipur, Rajasthan. The Webinar was conducted on 29th July 2021 between 2.00-3.00pm. The attendees enrolled were Dental students and faculties from various institutions includes 238 registrations out of which 149 were from other universities and 89 were within our university. The session began with a welcome address by Dr. Yuvaraj Babu, Assistant Professor, Department of Anatomy, followed by a brief introduction about the speaker by Dr. Lavanya Prathap, Assistant Professor, Department of Anatomy and proceeded by the speaker presentation.

The Guest speaker Dr. Rahul Pratap gave an extensive presentation about the role of various imaging techniques and its applications in different clinical scenarios within the field of dentistry. The discussion session was highly interactive with active participation of most of the participants. The session was highly appreciated by the participants with their active involvement too. It was a great event to make the day memorable. After the completion of the presentation the Q and A session was proceeded by Dr. Karthik Ganesh, Assistant Professor, Department of Anatomy. The session was ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Dinesh Premavathy, Senior Lecturer, Department of Anatomy.

Dr. Priyadarshree Pradhan was invited to give a webinar session on "Mass disaster and challenges in Indian scenario" on July 14th by the Departments of Forensic Odontology and General Pathology. Dr. Priyadarshree Pradhan is a Professor and Head of the department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology at Sri Ramachandra Medical College in Chennai. In his institute, he is a passionate teacher and an eminent resource person in medico legal cases, as well as a member of the Telangana State Public Service Commission's expert panel. The welcome message was given by Dr. Abirami Arthanari and Dr. Palati Sinduja, who also introduced the speaker to the audience. Dr. Pradhan provided a thorough overview of the procedures and challenges involved in disaster victim identification. The four phases of disaster victim identification were discussed in detail, along with insights into the challenges faced in India. Dr. Pradhan also discussed the humanitarian aspects of forensics, emphasising the overwhelming lack of resources when a major disaster strikes. The entire webinar was informative as we were introduced to the procedures and proceedings of forensics in victim identification. According to Dr. Pradhan, appropriate teamwork and communication between teams are critical for victim identification. Dr. Priyadharshini.R gave the vote of thanks at the end of the programme.

The participants for this webinar were Undergraduate and post graduate dental students and faculty from saveetha dental college and various other colleges. During the webinar, Dr. Aruthathi clearly explained about the dietary habits to be followed during the pandemic and also emphasized on how to maintain the health properly by balanced diet. She also explained about the various yogic aspects for the treatment of Covid which made the students more interesting towards the topic. At the end of the session, many students have voluntarily stood up and asked and shared many useful information’s and questions to the speaker. National Doctor’s Day was established by the Government of India back in 1991 in honor of the birth and death anniversary of the physician and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. Since then, July 1st in India is marked as National Doctor’s Day to show gratitude to all doctors. The day is observed on different dates across the world. In the United States, Doctor’s Day is observed on March 30th, in Cuba on December 3rd and in Iran on August 23rd.

Doctors have been fighting a long way from the frontlines against the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, saving lives at the cost of their own. With the pandemic still far from over, this day is important to honour many doctors who have sacrificed their lives.

To pay a tribute to the selfless work done by doctors and to honour their dedication towards serving their humanity, Saveetha Dental College, Chennai celebrated National Doctor’s Day by organising a webinar ‘Understanding Mucormycosis’. The webinar was presented by Dr. M.P.Santhosh Kumar, Associate Professor, Dept of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Saveetha Dental College. The registration was free and the E-invite was circulated among various institutional websites. E-certificates were offered to all the participants. The registration link was added in the invitation.

The main objective of this webinar was to bring together medical, paramedical, dental graduates and postgraduates, researchers and practising clinicians to discuss the recent occurrence of Mucormycosis, a severe post COVID secondary infection along with basic information about the myths and challenges of treating the infection. The questions of participants were also answered in the live session.

As a part of the “World No Tobacco Day 2021”, the Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology, Saveetha Dental College had conducted a webinar on 31st May 2021. In accordance with the theme “Commit to Quit” by WHO, the lecture delivered was titled “Innovations in Tobacco Cessation- An Insight”. The webinar had a total of 119 enthusiastic participants from various colleges across the country.

Presidential address was delivered by Dr.Ravi Kiran.A, President, Indian Academy of Oral Medicine & Radiology who spoke about the initiatives taken by Indian Academy of Oral Medicine & Radiology towards tobacco cessation. Following this, the guest lecture was delivered by Dr.Divyambika C.V, Associate Professor, Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology, Faculty of Dental Sciences, Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education & Research which was crisp, innovative and included all the latest information on tobacco cessation. The session also kindled scope for research among the participants.

Towards the end of the webinar, there was an interactive Question & Answer session where all the questions put forth by the participants were clarified in detail by the speaker. The webinar was anchored and coordinated by Dr. Sneha S, Senior Lecturer, Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology, Saveetha Dental College.
