Movie Club

All work and no play makes jack a dull boy! Saveetha Dental College, Chennai definitely takes this motto rather seriously. The NIRF rank 1 college not only stands out with its academics, but also keeps their students and faculties entertained with the experience of cinema.

Saveetha Movie Club recently organised the screening for the popular movie “Jailer” in PVR cinemas, Aminjikarai. It was a fun filled full house with action and thrill and of course, a lot of hooting and excitement in the air. A variety of delicious snacks made the experience even more unforgettable. Cheers to the university for organising a rather memorable and enjoyable experience with our colleagues and respected staffs!

Cooking Club

Cooking Club organized Onam Sadhya Event. It is a traditional vegetarian feast served in Kerala, India, during the festival of Onam, which is the most significant festival in the state. Onam Sadhya is known for its elaborate spread of dishes, typically served on a banana leaf. It is a multi-course meal that consists of various delicious and colorful vegetarian dishes. The Onam Sadhya is not just about the food but also about the way it is served and the communal aspect of the feast. Families and communities come together to enjoy this grand meal, and it is an integral part of the Onam celebration, symbolizing unity, diversity, and abundance. The variety of dishes and flavors make Onam Sadhya a culinary delight and a unique cultural experience. To celebrate the vibrance and joy of the festival, a feast was organised by cooking club on 2/9/23 with a delectable spread of 23 dishes  which included plain boiled rice, served along with other dishes collectively called Kootu which include curries like parippu, sambar, rasam, pulisseri and others like kaalan, avial, thoran, olan, pachadi, kichadi, koottukari, erissery, mango pickle, pulinji, naranga achaar (lime pickle), as well as papadam, plantain . Chancellor Sir had inaugurated the event.  Chendu melam music was played at the background to give the seasonal feel. Additionally a pookolam and lamp was kept to complete the decor. A live video on the molecular gastronomy of the onam sadhya was played. The event was presided by Dr.Sheeja Varghese, Registrar, Dr.Aravindkumar, Dean,SDC Dr.Sindhu, Dean of Accreditation, Dr.Vishnupriya, Dean of Doctoral studies.

Foodie Fusion Club

Saveetha Dental College - Cooking  Club Organized an Event on ‘ Exploring the Delights of Millet-Based Cuisine ’ on 25th July 2023

The culinary enthusiasts of the Cooking Club came together for a delectable food adventure on July 25th, 2023.  The official inauguration of the cooking Club at the institution was done. The objective of the club is to create awareness among young students and faculty about the importance of cooking healthy foods. Considering the enormous rise in chronic metabolic diseases in our country, this initiative will make a big difference in creating health awareness among students, faculty and patients who are being treated in our hospital. A captivating in-person lecture and workshop titled "Exploring the Delights of Millet-Based Cuisine" was orchestrated. Our honoured guest for the event was the renowned Indian Celebrity Chef, Dr Chef Damodharan K. With his culinary wisdom and insight he took us on a journey through the world of millet-based foods, infusing flavours and knowledge. He demonstrated the steps in making ragi idiyappam biryani. Students and faculty competed in 7 teams and tried to recreate the magical recipe of Chef Damu. Two student teams won the awards for best preparation. The session was wonderfully interactive and joyfully suffused with music and dance. Dr R. Ramya moderated the session and enhanced our understanding of the significance of millet-based cuisine. The Cooking Club continues to savour and learn, all thanks to such enriching gastronomic experiences.

Trekking club

Saveetha Dental College Trekking Club Organized an Event to Senji Rajagiri Fort On 15th July 2023.The inaugural trek of the SDC Trail Stars took place, involving students and faculty from SDC. A total of 62  members participated in this event . The trek was categorized as having  an "Easy-moderate" level of difficulty. However, due to intermittent stops along the route, the ascent from the base began slightly later than originally planned. Despite the intense sun, the participants demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm and determination.

The terrain predominantly consisted of ascending through rugged stone steps, occasionally interrupted by flat, plain-like areas. A significant number of participants successfully reached the summit of the hill fort, which comprises a lower section roughly halfway up. The ascent to the upper level proved more challenging, featuring narrow steps and fragmented segments. It's important to note that there is no water source at the summit, so future trekkers are advised to carry a minimum of 2 litres of water for the entire climb.

The descent commenced around 12 Noon, with departure from the site beginning at approximately 1:15 pm. A satisfying lunch was provided at Chengelpet Paranur Toll Plaza at 3 pm. The return to the campus was finalized at 4:45 pm.


To uphold environmental responsibility, all waste was gathered in cardboard containers and properly disposed of within the college premises, utilizing the institution's waste disposal facilities. Strict adherence to a no-littering policy was maintained throughout the trek. Importantly, no participants incurred any injuries during the entirety of the trek.
