The Department of Periodontics ended the year on a memorable note by organizing the ninth edition of its popular CDE Program Perio-Interactions, held on the 20th of December 2017 at the Decennial Hall in Saveetha Dental College. The program was developed to offer a unique opportunity to both mentors and their students to discuss and debate controversial yet challenging paradigms in the dynamic field of Periodontics. This year the event was particularly relevant across the national spectrum, wherein upcoming and promising faculty from various dental colleges in south India holistically approached key areas of periodontal etiopathogenesis and therapy. Prof. Dr. Bagavad Gita, Head of the Department of Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital and her  student Dr. Ann V. George inaugurated the session with the current and future perspective of the role of nutrigenomics in periodontics. Prof. Dr. S. Rajasekar, of Rajah Muthiah Dental College and Hospital and his post graduate student Dr. T. Preethi followed up from the previous lecture; elaborating on the evolution of the many models of periodontal pathogenesis and the possibility of a current consensus. The pre-lunch session was especially interactive as Prof. Dr. R. Viswa Chandra, (SVS Institute of Dental Sciences, Telangana) and his protégée  Dr. V. Vaishnavi showcased the various challenges and evidences of horizontal ridge augmentation with a kaleidoscope of cases ranging from block grafts, regenerative therapy and ridge expansion. Post lunch, Prof. Dr. R. Lalitha of Thai Moogambigai Dental College and Hospital and her student Dr. Neeharika provided an extensive review on the methods used to arrive at evidence based periodontal therapy. The final session helmed by Dr. Anupama Tadepalli, Reader at SRM Dental College and Hospital, Ramapuram and her student Dr.Devi Bala captivated the gathering with their robust discussion on the developmental strategies and scope of utilizing periodontal vaccines. Thirty e-posters based on the lectures were judged with winning posters being awarded to one post graduate in each category. The program was well received by the 100-odd participants and we now look forward to organizing the tenth edition of Perio-Interactions in the forthcoming academic year.
