Screening Awareness on Potentially malignant disorders

First year Oral pathology post graduates from Saveetha Dental College conducted an awareness and screening camp for the rural areas around the college. The camp was conducted in order to spread and create awareness on potentially malignant disorders and other common dental diseases and also screen the people for the presence of various dental diseases.

From the above findings it was concluded that, periodontal diseases were the most common findings in most of the screened individuals. Prevalence of dental caries was more common among the subjects. The overall oral hygiene maintenance was noted to be satisfactory among the subjects. Soft tissue lesions associated with tobacco use such as smoker’s palate, leukoplakia were noted to be 1% among the population. Good oral hygiene status was noted to be 13% among the population. Individuals were interactive during the health education. Oral hygiene kit with tooth paste, tooth brush were given to all individuals. Free treatment cards were given to all individuals Shops selling tobacco in the form of cigarettes and other smokeless form were noted in 1 km radius surrounding the camp site.
