EDIFY- Department of Pharmacology

Department of Pharmacology presented their department activity and future plans.

Mrs. Anitha Roy received Workaholic award and Dr. Ezhilarasan received Punctuality award. 

They presented 2 videos on pharmacological actions of two group of drugs. They had an average impact factor of 6.9 with 18 pubmed indexed journals. They have 4 Ph.D scholars with them. Also they have two industrial collaborations. 

In near future they are planning for 8 MOUs and few more industrial collaborations. 

All together Department of Pharmacology did a wonderful presentation and received a standing ovation.

Breast Cancer Awareness Camp: An Insight into Breast Cancer.

With the growing number of cancer in the country an awareness on it is essential. Hence we had a   team of eminent specialists who spoke to us on various aspects of cancer. They spoke to us on self examination for lump or tumour. various available treatment options in case of cancer. Also the enlightened us on diet and health to protect ourself from cancer and also food we need to take in case of disease.

Cleft Congress: 13th International congress of Cleft Lip, Palate and Craniofacial Anomalies

The 13th International congress of Cleft Lip, Palate and Craniofacial Anomalies was held at Radisson Blu Resort, Temple Bay, Mahabalipuram, from 8th Feb – 11th Feb, 2017 in Chennai. The 13th international Congress will impact the advancement of technology has been a noon in improving the quality of care provided to individuals with cleft and craniofacial anomalies. It was hosted by southern regional chapter of Indian society of cleft lip and palate craniofacial anomalies. Our faculty Dr Arvind shivkumar was a part of the organising team and is actively involved in welfare developments

Special Care Dentistry- A Panoptic Perspective.

A CDE program which is one of its kind. Special care dentistry is a budding unit in Oral Medicine and Radiology.

Around 100 participants, 5 guest lectures and a panel discussion with 6 eminent specialist what more is required to lit the brains of young minds to practice special care dentistry.

Dr. Arvind Muthukrishnan gave an overview on Special Care Dentistry. Dr.Deepak Nallasamy spoke to the audience on Saveetha Initiative with the statistics of cases done  on last one year. Dr. Nathaniel S. Treister spoke on the protocol and practice of Special Care Dentistry in USA. Dr.Akhila Muthukrishnan spoke on the protocol and practice in UK.

The program was concluded with a Panel discussion with 6 panel members.

International Show Case 2017 Conference

An exclusive conference for case reports and case series. Its the first of its kinds , its not only for the students, faculty and practitioners as well. Over 20 sessions, 700 papers and 300 posters on all specialities and delegates from across the country.

Guest Lecture by Dr.Nathaneil Simon Triester, Lead, Department of Oral Medicine, Harvard University. USA. He spoke on Special Care Dentistry and its importance.Signed MOU with us and joined us as an adjunct faculty.

The story doesn't end there. Inauguration of three departments:

2. Cleft and Craniofacial Unit

3. New Major Operation Theatre

 

 

Ergonomics in Dentistry- Stay Fit Save many Teeth

This is a collabarative CDE between Department of Periodontics, Saveetha Dental College and College of Physiotherapy, Saveetha University. We treat patients with utmost care but what care do we take of ourselves. We need to be healthy to treat many patients and to make the dentist aware of it his the motto of this CDE program. An overall statistics on discomfort at work is discussed followed by what all possible care is to be taken by the Dental Physician themselves are discussed in this program.

EDIFY-Department of Microbiology

Edify started with a Social Video on Indian Economy. Dr.Gopi received Workaholic and Punctuality Award .Mrs. R.V.Geetha presented 3 videos on their teaching methodology. The first video was on immunity, followed by DNA replication and clinical microbiology. They were proudly stating their results which was 100% and all got first-class  marks amount which 27% were distinction. They have 4 external Ph.D scholars, 350 projects and 99 students posters in the star summit in Jan 2017. 

Cochrane Workshop

Cochrane is a global independent network of researchers, professionals, patients, careers and people interested in health. For 20 years Cochrane has produced systematic reviews of primary research in human health care and health policy, and these are internationally recognized as the highest standard in evidence based health care resources.

             Saveetha Dental College is conducting a workshop in collaboration with Cochrane for the benefit of students and faculty on 30th and 31st January 2017. This is being conducted for the second time. 

MFDS-Examination held on 21st & 22nd January 2017

Award of the Diploma of Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery indicates that a candidate has enhanced his or her knowledge, understanding, experience and clinical competence well beyond primary qualification level to the standard required to proceed into specialist training. The diploma is managed by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. The exam has two parts. Successful candidates will be eligible to apply for MFDS Part 2 upon clearing part I exam. We at Saveetha Dental College, had the privilege of being recognised as one of the centres to conduct the MFDS Part II exams.

Examiners included proficiency from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, headed by Prof.Dr. Andrew Edwards and his team and two staff from the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Saveetha Dental College Dr Abdul Wahab and Dr.Madulaxmi M. 

The Examination was conducted on 21st & 22nd January, 2017 at Saveetha Dental College. 22 delegates, national and international, had enrolled for the examination. The delegates were divided into 3 batches and exam was conducted in 3 cycles successfully. 

The examiners from Royal college of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow were immensely impressed with the prodigious organization and co-ordination orchestrated by the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Saveetha Dental College and are certain to have our institute as one of their permanent centres to conduct more such honourable examinations in future.  

ORTHOGNATHIC SYMPOSIUM

  ORTHOGNATHIC SYMPOSIUM

We ,From department of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery ,Saveetha Dental College and hospital have conducted an orthognathic symposium combined with workshop for three days from Jan 19th to Jan 21st 2017 . This program hosted around 200+ delegates and received overwhelming response from the audience saying this program is one of its kind in the topic of orthognathic surgery .

This program hosted around 20 lectures on day one and followed by demonstrating mock surgery ,Ceph tracing and live surgery demonstration on day 3 . There was one foreign delegate for this program.This program was approved by TNDC with 18 credit points .

Saveetha Orthognathic Symphosium

Perfect human face is de novo gift. Iatrogenically creating this to satisfy the patient; and to achieve functional optimacy requires commendable skills.

Being a renowned centre for orthognathic surgeries, our aim was to share our experience with the budding surgeons, and give them a feel of osteotomies through our workshop. With this, we hope to inspire and encourage young surgeons to perform orthognathic surgeries with confidence. 

Day 1: Hands On workshop

Saveetha’s Orthognathic Symposium started off with a hands on workshop where the delegates were exposed to maxillary and mandibular osteotomy procedures which they got to practise on skull models using bone saws and other high end surgical instruments, usually considered a novelty in most teaching hospitals. 

Day 2: Lecture Series

Day 2 started off with an Inauguration Ceremony graced by Dr.Andrew Edwards, the Guest of Honour; Dr.Deepak Nallasamy, Dean of Academics, Saveetha Dental College; Dr. Rajagopal, Advisor, Saveetha Dental College. The OGS Symposium Handouts were released by Dr.Deepak Nallasamy. The scientific session consisted of a lecture marathon with a plethora of lectures by all the eminent personalities in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontics. 

Day 3: Live Surgical Demonstration

A bi-maxillary procedure with High LeFort 1 osteotomy with advancement of the maxilla and Bilateral Sagittal Split Osteotomy with mandibular setback was performed for the live surgical demonstration. Live HD video streaming was done with commentary and an interactive session where the delegates could ask questions to the operating surgeons was conducted. An e-poster competition was conducted. 

 

The three day Symposium ended with felicitation of the e-posters prize winners by Dr. Andrew Edwards, followed by a gala lunch. 

We received positive feedback from the delegates who enthusiastically enquired about future events.

EDIFY-Department of Biochemistry

The Edify on 19/1/2017 started with a video on biostatistics. It was a mindblowing video on how all statistics and data can be made interesting.

A moment to celebrate four faculty were promoted to the next academic post.

The Department of Biochemistry presented a video on the overview of the department activities followed by which the showcased there academic and research success. They had 71 distinctions in the previous academic year, 405 publication and still counting on to add another 51 which will be completed shortly. 

They played 2 videos one on Sickle cell anaemia and another on DNA analysis. They have plans to conduct 3 CME programme shortly. 

They were simply rocking!!!

CDE on Rotary Endodontics in Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr.Madhu Sudhan, Reader, Department of Pedodontics, Saveetha Dental College spoke on “Root Canal Morphology in Primary teeth” . He gave detailing on every tooth and the difference between the Primary and Secondary teeth. Dr.Ganesh Jeevanandan gave lecture on Shaping redefined-Use of rotary files in Primary teeth. This enlightened the spectators on the fine details to be considered while using the rotary instruments and correlate with the morphology discussed in the earlier lecture. This was followed by the hands on training by both the speakers which gave the delegates a more confident approach on Rotary Endodontics In Kids.

CME programme on Anaerobic Infections.

CME programme on “ Anaerobic infections: Current Challenges & Newer Approaches” by the Department of Microbiology. In an era of modern medicine where antibiotics play a key role in management of many diseases anaerobic organisms pays a challenge. Oral cavity harbours numerous commensals which turn out to be infectious in immunocompromised state. A wide knowledge on these anaerobic organisms and their management is essential for effective patient care. So is the programme which enlighten us on all these aspects.

  • Candidates who did their Undergraduate Dental education in India should have completed Internship by 31 March 2017.

  • Candidates who did their Undergraduate Dental education outside India should have special permission from DCI.

  •  All Candidates should be qualified in NEET - PG 2017  (for all categories including NRI quota).

  • Tuition Fee for MDS in different Specialities are as follows: 

    • Oral Pathology, Public Health Dentistry - 3,00,000 Indian Rupees / annum. 

    • Periodontics, Oral Medicine + Special Care Dentistry - 6,00,000 Indian Rupees / annum. 

    • Pedodontics, Prosthodontics  - 9,00,000 Indian rupees / annum. (Prosthodontic graduates will need to buy BPS instruments (Rs. 3,50,000)  and Dental Implant kits (Rs. 2,00,000)

Fantastic Day 5-STAR Summit

Students go global...Chief guests of the day are Dr.Aruni Wilson,Basic Sciences, Division of Microbiology, School of Medicine,Loma Linda University. An author of numerous articles and books on oral microbiota. Prof.Dr. Tord Lindgren, Chair,Department of Periodontics, Loma Linda University. Sir is been a University of California, San Francisco, University of Florida, King Faizal Speciality Hospital and College. Its an honour to have them here, they were looking at our students work and were impressed also inspired us to work more.

There wer 275 posters by 2 departments, 21 judges and 45 peer judges !! isn't it a really fantastic day!!

Fabulous Day 4- STAR Summit

It was a great day again. Everyday is becoming a celebration with our students effort and hard work. 

Our Chief Guest of the day is Dr. Sharada Ramasubramanian, Associate Professor ,R.S.Mehta Jain Department of Biochemistry and cell Biology vision research foundation, Shankara Nethralaya, Chennai. Madam has done her post-doctoral in UK. She has numerous national and international research publications to her credentials.

Department of Orthodontics and Pedodontics displayed their research work which was simply mind blowing. Over 266 posters, 21 judges and 30 peer judges. Everyone was dump stuck at the work by the students and their knowledge on research.
