Associate Dean of International affairs visited Hisar -Haryana agricultural university for an international Symposium cum Discussion on Collaborations with various international University  on 3rd and 4th December 2017.

Michigan State university .Prof Dr Karim Merdia, University of Illinois Prof Dr .Vijay Singh and Prof Dr Kent D Rausch , Washington state university Prof.Dr Kulvinder gill and Research Scientist Dr Krishna Kumar Sugumaran from Kuwait institute of Scientific research were present in the MoU and student exchange programme discussion .

The honourable Vice chancellor of Hisar Haryana Agricultural university and Prof .Dr.Samunder Singh , Dean International affairs gave a warm welcome for the interactive sessions and particularly for the collaboration with international and national university at the symposium .

On this occasion Saveetha Dental and engineering college inked an MoU with Kuwait Institute of Scientific Research for various scientific collaboration on December 4th 2017 .

 

Periodontics-Interactions

The Department of Periodontics ended the year on a memorable note by organizing the ninth edition of its popular CDE Program Perio-Interactions, held on the 20th of December 2017 at the Decennial Hall in Saveetha Dental College. The program was developed to offer a unique opportunity to both mentors and their students to discuss and debate controversial yet challenging paradigms in the dynamic field of Periodontics. This year the event was particularly relevant across the national spectrum, wherein upcoming and promising faculty from various dental colleges in south India holistically approached key areas of periodontal etiopathogenesis and therapy. Prof. Dr. Bagavad Gita, Head of the Department of Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital and her  student Dr. Ann V. George inaugurated the session with the current and future perspective of the role of nutrigenomics in periodontics. Prof. Dr. S. Rajasekar, of Rajah Muthiah Dental College and Hospital and his post graduate student Dr. T. Preethi followed up from the previous lecture; elaborating on the evolution of the many models of periodontal pathogenesis and the possibility of a current consensus. The pre-lunch session was especially interactive as Prof. Dr. R. Viswa Chandra, (SVS Institute of Dental Sciences, Telangana) and his protégée  Dr. V. Vaishnavi showcased the various challenges and evidences of horizontal ridge augmentation with a kaleidoscope of cases ranging from block grafts, regenerative therapy and ridge expansion. Post lunch, Prof. Dr. R. Lalitha of Thai Moogambigai Dental College and Hospital and her student Dr. Neeharika provided an extensive review on the methods used to arrive at evidence based periodontal therapy. The final session helmed by Dr. Anupama Tadepalli, Reader at SRM Dental College and Hospital, Ramapuram and her student Dr.Devi Bala captivated the gathering with their robust discussion on the developmental strategies and scope of utilizing periodontal vaccines. Thirty e-posters based on the lectures were judged with winning posters being awarded to one post graduate in each category. The program was well received by the 100-odd participants and we now look forward to organizing the tenth edition of Perio-Interactions in the forthcoming academic year.

 

Simplified Aesthetics

The Continuing Dental Education programme on “Simplified Aesthetics- Managing fluorosis with minimal invasion” was held on 18th December 2017. It was lectured by Dr.Chris Chen. This enthralling lecture showcased on the orator’s skills in the form of clinical cases which engaged the audiences interest throughout. The primary focus was directed at bleaching materials and procedures and to arrive at a decisive planning regarding the same. An Australian Product “U Veneers” which is now being used world over was discussed about in detail. A wide array of the clinician’s techniques and expertise were spoken of which can be practised on a day to day basis.

 

Orthodontics- DAMON

The Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics, Saveetha Dental College in association with ORMCO, organized a 2 day CDE programme on the Damon System on the  14th and 15th December 2017. 

The course was conducted by Dr.C.S.Ramachandra, Principal and Head of department, Department of Orthodontics, AECS Maaruti Dental College, Bangalore. The course was attended by 45 participants that included post graduates and faculties from various colleges.

The programme was carefully structured to include the recent improvements in the Damon System with the help of Lectures, Case Discussions and Live Video demonstration of the bonding procedures for the cases discussed. The first day included lectures on the principle, workings of the Damon system and the availability of the different torque options. This was followed by display and detailed explanation of the mechanotherapy used in the cases treated by the course mentor using the Damon System.

The first half of the second day included case discussion and treatment planning for various cases in the department. This was later followed by live video demonstration of the bonding process using the Damon system in the cases that had been discussed earlier.

 The main take away of the course was the decision making process in identifying cases that require with brackets with increased torque. The Programme received positive reviews from the participants of the course. 

 

Edify- Department of Microbiology

Department of Microbiology presented their 4th edify on 21/12/2017. They presented 2 educational videos. One on dengue and its prevention and the other on the pathogenesis of anaphylaxis.

They also presented their department video which highlighted their department achievements like result, research projects, consultancy services , CDE programmes conducted, achieved and participated along with various awards won.

Edify- Department of General Pathology

Department of General Pathology presented their  4th Edify meet on 7.12.17. We presented our department activities as a video includes

    2. Mélange of Non neoplastic lesions, PSG Coimbatore.
    3. IADR, Saveetha Dental COllege.
  5. Achievements 
    1. Award for High score among all the second year subjects
    2. Award for University rank 8 in Founder’s day.

 Next to that video we showed 2 innovative teaching videos on SPICULATED RBCS and HALLMARKS OF CANCER

Spiculated RBCs video was prepared by using 3D animation &Video edit.

For Hallmarks of Cancer Video we used Brushes app with cartoon art and X mirage airplay.

Both the videos were appreciated well.

Thus the Edify cycle 4 of General Pathology department was over by thanking all the well wishers.

Guest lecture and work shop on Maxillofacial Prosthesis

The workshop was conducted by Prof. P.C.Jacob …The lecture emphasized on the importance of fixed and removable oral and maxillofacial prosthesis and various stages of surgery as well as radiotherapy contemplated with the prosthesis. The speaker gave a brief introduction about immediate surgical stents and prosthesis.

There was a hands-on demonstration on obturators, guide flange, ocular, orbital, auricular,Finger and nose prosthesis and their mode of fabrication, with a keen focus on aesthetic camouflage and greater retention of the prosthesis.

It was a great learning curve where they reached to a greater depth of understanding in the importance and fabrication of maxillofacial prosthesis.

EASY TO SHAPE KIDS II

Easy to shape kids, A CDE programme was conducted by the Department of Pediatric and preventive Dentistry Saveetha Dental college. The CDE programme was attended by50 participants which included pediatric dentist and general dentist. Two lectures were given was delivered by Dr. Ganesh Jeevanandan and Dr. Madhusudhan. One lecture was on the root canal morphology of primary teeth and another on Rotary files in primary teeth.  The lecture was helpful for the pediatric dentist and general dentist to understand the morphology of primary teeth and the use of rotary files in primary teeth. There was an active interaction between the participants and mentors which resulted in positive feedback from the participant. 

11th INTERNATIONAL BDS STUDENTS SEMINAR ON BASIC MEDICAL SCIENCES

11th INTERNATIONAL BDS STUDENTS SEMINAR ON BASIC MEDICAL SCIENCES was organized by all the Basic Medical Science Departments as a joint effort to bring a confluence of knowledge of First and Second Year B.D.S., students in a Scientific forum. It was held on 9th December 2017 at Saveetha Dental College Totally around 470 students participated and presented paper and e-posters in all the 6 basic sciences departments. A scientific quiz was conducted in the evening. Best paper and poster awards for all the sessions was given away in the valedictory function. Priyadarshini dental college bagged the overall best college award.

Easy to shape kids 1

Easy to shape kids, A hands on course was conducted by the Department of Pediatric and preventive Dentistry Saveetha Dental college. The hand on course was attended by 25 participants which included pediatric dentist and general dentist. The hands on course was conducted in a 3D model were In step by step demonstration from access opening to obturation was given by Dr. Ganesh Jeevanandan. The participants were then given individual 3D model, where they performed pulpectomy steps. The major focus was the cleaning and shaping step, the participants were given rotary files to prepare the stimulated canals. The hands on course also included live demonstration of pulpectomy procedure using rotary files in primary teeth.

30th Founders Day Celebration.

A moment of pride, honour, respect and emotions. What more to say. An overwhelmed joy in the faces of the leader and the disciples as we call ourselves proudly,the Saveethanian effect was running in everybody's soul and the auditorium was vibrant with the heat produced. 

5 lifetime achievement awards, 1 young achiever award, student scholarship for toppers worth 1 crore, award for publications worth another crore what else can an university do to motivate and uplift our students and faculty.

Every institution under the University had an A-V to showcase their achievement for the academic year 2016-2017. The icing was the video on the Journey of our honourable Chancellor as an educationist.

Edify- Department of Anatomy

Wow! its so refreshing to have an edify after almost 4 weeks. Department of Anatomy rocked as usual. They presented two teaching videos and it was really illustrative. Their in class activity was highly interactive and it cannot mislead anybodies understanding. Dr. Yuvraj Babu received punctuality award and Dr. Karthik Ganesh received workaholic award. They concluded their event with their future plans.

Annual Award Ceremony - Insignia 2017

Insignia, a distinguished recognition given by an organisation. Here we go with 270 awards for students and faculty Saveetha Dental College. An once in a year event and  the most awaited event, ANNUAL AWARD CEREMONY- INSIGNIA 2017.  

What more can be done by an institution to encourage , motivate and celebrate their  students and faculty. Rome was not build in a day and this day is not for this single day again. This institution has proved it again how it values its own people.

Award were given to students across all the years of under graduation,  post graduation, dental technicians , faculties and non teaching staffs. Cultural performance by each batch of students proved their multifaceted personality. The ceremony came to an end with a gala dinner.

Pedodontics for general Practitioners

The first edition of SHARP- Saveetha’s Headway on Advanced Revision in Paediatric Dentistry was conducted by the Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry. It's a national CDE program for general practitioners. Dr.Hemalatha, Professor and Head of Department of Pedodontics, SRM Dental College, Ramapuram, presided over the function. The program started with the lighting of kuthuvilakkuby the Dean, Dr.N.D.Jayakumar and the chief guest. Dr. Deepa Gurunathan, delivered the welcome address and Dr.EMG.Subramanian the vote of thanks.

Dr.Aruna Mohan B.D.S, M.Dent.Sc gave a lecture on Interceptive Orthodontics. She highlighted on the importance of treating children with malocclusion at right age. Next lecture, Localisation of Supernumerary Teeth by Dr.Srikanthkumar Mallineni B.D.S, M.D.S (Hong Kong) described the various modalities of locating and removal of supernumerary teeth. Dr.Victor Samuel, Reader, SRM Kaatangulathur Dental College spoke about the importance of treating very young children under general anaesthesia. Protocols to be followed and different centres with theater setups were also discussed. Dr.Shankar, Reader from Meenakshi Ammal Dental College and Dr.Veera Kishorekumar Reddy gave a detailed insight about Traumatic Injuries and Rotary Endodontics respectively.

E-poster competition was conducted and students from various colleges including one from Andhra Pradesh actively participated and presented. Awards for the winners were given away by the Director of Academics, Saveetha Dental College in the Valedictory function at 4pm.

3D’s Diagnose/Design/Develop

The Department of orthodontics & Cleft & craniofacial institute had organized a one-day CDE program on 3D imaging, its recent advances & its application in Craniofacial region. The CDE program had 5 guest lectures from eminent speakers from various specialties including an international speaker Prof Dr Peter Mossey. 

The program started with the Inauguration ceremony which was presided over by Our Dean Prof Dr N.D. Jayakumar, Prof Dr Shanthasundari (HOD of Dept Of Orthodontics), Prof Dr Muthusekar (HOD of Oral Surgery) with Prof Dr Peter Mossey as our Guest of Honour. Prof Dr Shanthasundari gave the welcome address, then the guest of honour Prof Dr Peter Mossey addressed the gathering & gave a brief speech. Dr Arvind Sivakumar from the Cleft & Craniofacial Institute delivered vote of thanks. Finally the inauguration ended with our national anthem. 

Dr Mogit Gupta gave an informative lecture on “The W factor in 3D imaging of craniofacial deformities”. Prof Dr Peter Mossey shared his experience in “The role & development of 3D imaging in Craniofacial Research”. Prof Dr Deepa gave an interesting lecture on “Reveal the defect with 3D imaging”. Prof Dr Vikraman shared his vast experience with “3D simulation in Craniofacial Surgery. Post Lunch Dr John Nesan showed us some insight into the latest & advanced “Applications of 3D printing in Craniofacial region”.

The program was well attended by various faculties from different specialities including, Orthodontists, Oral & maxillofacial surgeons, Pedodontists & Oral medicine & Radiology post graduates & faculties.

SNELSCON- A Conference on Medical Emergencies

Saveetha National Emergency Life Support Conference ,2017, was conducted on oct 5th and 6th. The registration number was restricted to 250 delegates to ensure a quality training to all who registered.15 speakers from the medical and dental fraternity gave lectures and shared their knowledge and experience with the delegates. The two day program included intensive lectures and 20 hands on station.The hands-on station covered a range of emergency procedures like CPR, IV line, Central venous access, use of defibrillator, emergency drugs,surgical airway,etc. Each station had 15 participants which enabledindividual hands-on participation rather than just observing the procedures.The stations were handled by qualified medical trainers.After the hands-on, the delegates also participated in a CPR challenge and the winner was awarded. There was also an e-poster competition where the posters were judged and the best poster was awarded. The feedback from all attendees confirm that the event was a grand success and the delegates had a productive experience.

Ayutha Pooja Celebration

Ayusha Pooja Celebration 2017

Ayudha Pooja is an integral part of the Navaratri festival (festival of triumph), a festival which is traditionally celebrated in India. It is also called "Astra Puja", the synonym for Ayudha Puja. In simple terms, it means “Worship of Instruments”. The Puja is considered a meaningful custom, which focuses specific attention to one’s profession and its related tools and connotes that a divine force is working behind it to perform well and for getting the proper reward.

To inculcate tradition and emphasise the importance of Ayusha Pooja, an elaborate pooja is organised every year in our college.

WORKSHOP ON TEETH ARRANGEMENT WITH BPS

A workshop on BPS (Bio functional prosthetic system) teeth arrangement was conducted for the 1st MDS students of prosthodontics in the year 2017 in Saveetha dental college. A renowned dental technician Mr. Mathew boxhoorn was the course conductor. He has more than 15 years of experience in BPS and conducts courses worldwide.

The programme established basic of 3D teeth arrangement using the 3D template fabricated specially for this system of complete dentures.

This helped the students to proceed with accuracy in the teeth arrangement for their clinical cases using the BPS system of complete dentures.

Welcome Party:SU-Swagat: Awareness Workshop on Gender Sensitivity & Sexual Harassment

Su-Swagat, is a welcome party to the new students. Its an event where there get to interact with there immediate seniors and super seniors. Students are divided into groups. Each group has few students from there seniors and super seniors. This helps students to have a healthy relationship and avoid ragging. As already known ours is a anti-ragging campus and this introduction among students help them be friendly with each other. It runs for two days and students have lot of games, debates and group activity. This also helps them in learning their subjects better as they won't have any hesitation to ask and discuss with their seniors.

An awareness on gender sensitivity, harrassement and anti ragging was given to the students.
